Mr. Avinash Prasad was born on 25th November 1947. He graduated with a B.E. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Regional Engineering College in the year 1969. He also pursued a course in General Executive Management Programme from CEDEP, Paris in 1998-99.
Mr. Prasad joined Tata Steel as a Graduate Trainee in 1969 and is presently working as the Vice President (IR). From 1971 to 1987 Mr. Prasad was involved in the Iron Making Division of Tata Steel. In his long association with the company, Mr. Prasad has gathered experience in project management, technology management and operation of Blast Furnaces.
Mr. Prasad was also involved in the Human Resource department of Tata Steel from 1988-1996. During this period, he headed the Personnel & Industrial Relations department of Tata Steel and The Tinplate Company of India Limited and implemented several organisational changes and up-gradation of technical training.
Mr. Prasad undertook Strategic Outsourcing projects in the year 2002-2003. The project involved restructuring of the organisation, formation of a new utility company, now known as JUSCO (Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Company Limited), and collaborations for outsourcing.
From 1997-2002 and again between 2003-2005, Mr. Prasad had a unique combination of heading the Coal Mines and the Iron Ore Mines division of the company.
During his long professional career, Mr. Prasad has authored and presented several papers at various Indian and global fora. He also has had the distinction of chairing several conferences in India and abroad. Mr. Prasad also has been a part of several official delegations from Tata Steel to various countries. He has worked closely with many blue chip companies and consultants to further the cause of development of the company, and has attended several management and technical training programmes.
Mr. Prasad is a member of several Corporate and Professional bodies. He is currently President of Jamshedpur Management Association; and in the past has been Working President of Mining Engineers’ of India, Barajamda Chapter; a Managing Committee Member of Federation of Indian Mineral Industries, New Delhi, and President of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur, West. He is a member of Technical Education & Mining committee, CII; and a life member of National Institute of Personnel Management and the Indian Institute of Metals.
Mr. Prasad is additionally involved in various social and cultural activities. He is a Trustee of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF); a Member of Managing Council of Tata Steel Rural Development Society; a Member of Tata Archery Academy Council, a Member of the Governing Body at Jamshedpur Blood Bank and a Trustee, Steel Workers Technical Education Trust. He also holds the position of President of NIT Durgapur Alumni, Jamshedpur Chapter and the Vice Chairman of Ardeshir Dalal Memorial Hospital, Jamshedpur.
