Mr U K Chaturvedi (Vice President, TQM & CSI)

Mr. U. K. Chaturvedi was born on 23rd December 1949. He holds 1st Class degree in B.Sc from Lucknow University. Mr. Chaturvedi started his journey with Tata Steel in the year 1969 as an Operative Trainee.

He is presently working as Vice President (TQM & CSI) at Tata Steel. After completion of training, Mr. Chaturvedi has worked in the steel making operations of the company such as SMS # 3, LD Shop # 1 and LD # 2. He was appointed as AGM (Steel & Primary Mills) in 1997. Soon Mr. Chaturvedi was promoted to Dy. General Manager (Steel) overseeing the operations of steel making. He worked subsequently as General Manager & Executive In Charge (Long Products) and Vice President (Long Products).

He has undergone training at world-renowned organisations like British Steel, and Strathcylde University Glasgow, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Kellogg, U.S.A. Mr. Chaturvedi has also pursued a management course at CEDEP, France. And has worked as a coordinator for steel making technology transfer to Tata Steel from Thyssen Stahl, Germany.

Mr. Chaturvedi is actively involved in number professional bodies holding prestigious positions in the executive committees. He is a Member of Indian Institutes of Metals (IIM); India Tech Foundation- CONSTRU (Construction Materials); Empowered Board to review R&D project to achieve Refractory Consumption of International Bench Mark level in Integrated Steel Plants; The Board of management of Tata Football Academy (TFA) and The Governing Council of Tata Athletic Academy. He is also the Executive President of Jharkhand Badminton Association.

Mr. Chaturvedi is associated to a number of organisations at Tata Steel as well, occupying responsible positions like Alternate Director, NatSteel Asia Pte Ltd; Director, The Siam Industrial Wire Co. Ltd; Additional Director, Tayo Rolls Ltd; Director, Tata Refractories Ltd; Chairman, Indian Steel &Wire Products and Chairman, Lanka Special Steel Ltd.

Mr. Chaturvedi has also written for a number of journals and professional magazines. The most significant contributions have been- Improvement of LD Operations With a six hole lance at Tata Steel, Strategies for controlling nitrogen in the Tundish of Slab Caster and Initial operating experience in Tata Steel's New Slab Caster.

During this period, Mr. Chaturvedi has won many awards and accolades from a number of professional bodies namely; Steel 80's award in 1991- Indian Institute of Metals; Best metallurgist award in 1996 and Essar Gold Medal in 1998.
